What is Media?

The media. Our favorite component to keep up! It plays a huge role in shaping how we see the world, what we believe, and even how we act. From social media influencers to news outlets, movies, and TV shows, media is quite literally everywhere, and it’s constantly creating trends we follow. The media in my eyes is seen as a source used to form and create opinions based upon perception. This is one of the biggest ways the media impacts us . One way the media affects perception is through framing. For example, how a news outlet chooses to cover a story, and what facts they include or leave out ; can shape how we think about an issue. Social media takes this even further by using algorithms to tailor content to what we already like or interact with. This can create repetitive habits , where we only see one perspective repeatedly, making it harder to see the bigger picture or understand opposing views.  The constant exposure to unrealistic and polished images through the media has begun to sink society’s true values and views upon others and themselves. For example, an influencer only documenting the productive outlook upon her life, but leaving out the parts of laziness or unhealthy habits. This creates a sense of false expectations, that we as people among the media fall into.

Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your site can evolve with it. Your goal should be to make it feel right for right now. Later will take care of itself. It always does.
